Samples of Letters We've Sent
'No' to Eyman is not 'Yes' to Sound Transit
Submitted to the PI, Dec. 16, 2002
To the editor,
The debate on Sound Transit and I-776 has exposed the arrogance of the
people running county government. The debate now isn't about the
right of the people to decide how much they want to pay for car tabs,
or about the merits of mass transit. It's about county officials
ignoring the law and spinning election results to justify their myopic
preoccupation with light rail.
I am tired of power obsessed officials spinning the I-776 'no' vote in
King, Pierce and Snohomish counties as somehow an endorsement of Sound
Transit. It's quite a stretch to go from a 'no' vote on an Eyman
escapade to the conclusion that the good people of these counties want
to build a an ill-conceived, underfunded light rail project.
Apparently, it is beyond the ability of these officials to imagine a
public that dislikes both Tim Eyman and Sound Transit.
Instead of engendering all of this public resentment by telling us
what we meant when we voted, why not remove all doubt and have another
vote on Sound Transit?
